Can Disgraced Governor Spitzer Ever Recover from His Tainted Image?

How forgiving is the American public when a respected image gets tainted?
Tylenol recovered. Bad-boy Bill Clinton recovered. But can resigned New York Governor Eliot Spitzer ever recover?

Spitzer’s career is over, so he will no longer be a public figure, so once this thing dies down he will be a forgotten spec on the radar. Will his marriage recover is another question.

When the FBI found out they ensnarled a Govenor in their net, I’m sure they went to the
White house first to ask how to handle it. I can see Bush looking up from his Legos to Cheney, who is making the thumbs down signal with an evil grin on his face…

LOL But will he get the $$$M book deal?

Well I’ve heard of looking for love in all the wrong places - but this time the question boils down to who is paying for that love doesn’t it? The next New York scandal will probably over shadow this one soon enough.

Will he recover? I’m not sure Bill Clinton has recovered. Even though I think he did a great job, not everyone agrees. On the other hand Michael Milken recovered his rep and his fortune and he stole from lots of people didn’t he?

    Good question John!

  4. admin Says:

And good answer, Ronnie. Time will tell.

It’s ironic that this happened to a righteous blowhard like Spitzer. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. His white knight crusading days are over. He’ll probably do some lawyering in private practice, but what a downfall!

There’s an expression emerging out here in LA: “spitzering”. It is being mostly overheard in West Hollywood. It’s meaning? Don’t ask.

One more thing. To hear Jim Cramer sobbing about his friend and former Harvard Law classmate on Meridith Viera makes me want to slap that little be-yotch.

A one time brilliant idealist who, like so many others, fell to temptation and compromised all that accelerated his carreer. Will he be back…time and new incidents heal but given he’s the toast of WAll Street…and who know what’s still in “discovery” - I’ll share a short story that sums up his future in the public limelight (he’ll be just fine in the private sector).

In 1992 - I visited a beautiful little town outside of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Local establishment called the Parkway was hoppin’ @ lunch. After downing a Red Stripe, or three, Chef Balfe asked if I was in the mood for some fresh fair. 20 minutes later 3 strips of local snake were served over rice/beans with a nice rum chaser. Killed fresh and cooked on a spit in the back. He went quick..and I bet he has an identical looking brother, sister, son, etc. who’s enjoyng life, catching some rays…all is ire. My money’s on the snake.

It appears as if the ex Governor was not caught by chance but was the actual subject of the investigation. My reasoning being that, as of now, none of the other names on the indictment have been given to the press. I feel that this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as his misdemeanors are concerned. Frankly I was disgusted by his appearances accompanied by his very unhappy spouse. What had she to do with his current problem? I think that he used her to try and gain sympathy to enhance his not very convincing “mea culpa” For that reason alone he doesn’t merit a “comeback” in public service

  8. admin Says:

Her appearance was clearly a show of support for him, which I’m sure was very tough on her. However, when your career, and entire brand image, is about being “the good guy” and busting law breakers, you won’t get any sympathy when you get caught doing it yourself.

His question now is, will his marriage survive?

  9. Tone Dawg Says:

Whoa whoa whoa. Did you see the New Jersey chick? It’s totally worth it!

Word is Michael Jordan is Client #10…

  10. admin Says:

    Yo Dawg,

Thanks for the update. No doubt the Letterman/Leno writers will be eager to know for sure.

No way, John. Her demeanor was one of obvious discomfort and personal pain. In this case sympathy for her makes him look much worse.

  12. admin Says:

No question there, Stanley. She was clearly in pain and, I’m sure, struggling with her feelings at the moment. Yet it was ultimately her call to stand there beside him, or not. Question now is, will she stay with him?
